The Captains meeting is a great way to meet your fellow anglers, learn about last minute rule changes and recieve door prizes.
This year we will be giving away the "Best Dang Tackle Box". This is a raffle to those who participate by donating a new packaged lure you will recive a chance to win and a ticket. After the event registration a ticket will be draw and the overflowing 5 gal bucket of lures could be yours!
Grassy Point Campout
The club is planning an overnight fishing trip to the Grassy Point Wildlife Management Area near the Yellow River delta. Grassy Point is located west of Choctaw NOLF off of Hwy 87 in Santa Rosa County.
The primative campsites provides ready access to the fishing area of Little Catfish and Catfish basins. Redfish,Ttrout, and Flounder can be found in the marshes, bayous and shallow waters.
We decided to make this event occur on the time change weekends (simi-annual). Hope to see you there!
Rigging Clinic
Each January we hold our annual rigging clinic to help new kayak aglers add, modify, or remove items to/from their kayaks to aid them in the pursuit of the perfect fishing kayak.
Bring your yaks and any rigging projects you have. Take advantage of the experience of others.
If your yak is fully rigged, bring it to show off. Seeing how others have rigged their yaks is half the fun.
Also, if you have yak gear to sell or swap, bring it and we can set up a barter station.
This years event was held at Hot Spots Bait and Tackle in Gulf Breeze,

Memorial Day
A personal note from the webmaster
It is not important who or where the first planned or spontaneous gathering of people met to honor the war dead, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 - 363) to ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays),
Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.
As the webmaster of the Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association I respectfully request that all Americans to take time to honor the many soldiers who gave their all to ensure we have the freedoms we enjoy today!
This year we were contacted by a family who experienced this sacrifice first hand with the loss of their son. It was our intentions to have the parents speak at our 2012 spring tournament awards ceremony, but unfortunately things did not progress as planned. We were honored to be able to contribute some of the tournament proceeds to LCpl. Travis Nelson Memorial Scholarship fund.
LCpl. Nelson, 19, was shot and killed by enemy fire Aug. 18 while on patrol in Marjah, Afghanistan, only five weeks after being deployed as an infantry rifleman with the First Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejuene, N.C., according to the Department of Defense.
If you would like to contribute, deposits can be made at any Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union branch in LCpl. Travis Nelson’s name.
